Cadillac's announcement of the new EVs was made during a short presentation on the company's business performance. While no specific availability estimates were given, the automaker aims to begin production of all three cars sometime in 2024, with some starting at the end of that year. The Lyriq is expected to have 1,000 units built by the end of this week, and production of the Celestiq flagship is set to begin in December.
Meanwhile, Cadillac had some good news for fans of sedans, as U.S. sales of the CT4 and CT5 models were up by around 40% in 2022. The CT5 specifically had its best sales year since it was introduced. Cadillac representatives attribute this to the fact that 2022 was one of the first years without supply chain issues or pandemic-related disruptions. The average age of sedan buyers is also decreasing, particularly among Blackwing buyers.
However, Cadillac's SUVs continue to outperform its sedans in terms of sales. The CT5 sold nearly 16,000 units, and the CT4 sold just over 9,000 units, while every SUV except for the Lyriq sold more than 20,000 units in the U.S. The Escalade, in particular, remains the brand's best-selling SUV, with over 40,000 units sold.
The three new EVs that Cadillac plans to reveal this year are expected to further boost the brand's efforts to transition to electric vehicles. With the ongoing global shift towards sustainable transportation, many automakers are increasing their investments in electric vehicle technology to meet rising demand. Cadillac is poised to be a major player in this market, and its forthcoming EVs are sure to draw significant interest from car enthusiasts and environmentalists alike.
