The EV rides on VW's MEB platform, but Ford has promised that it will have unique features such as aero-optimized wheels that will make it more aerodynamic, and plastic body cladding that will give it a more rugged appearance. Although it is unclear whether Ford will install its own SYNC 4 infotainment system or adopt VW's setup, the automaker has confirmed that the Ford EV will feature a unique cabin.
Ford has divulged few details about the EV's powertrain, but it has confirmed that the model will offer a range of 311 miles on a single charge, which should make it quite appealing to potential buyers. It is expected that Ford will use components from Volkswagen, possibly including the 300-horsepower dual-motor setup in the all-wheel-drive GTX.

The new EV is part of Ford's wider plan to transform its European lineup. The "Medium-Size Crossover" will be positioned below the Mach-E. Ford is also developing the "Sport Crossover," which shares a platform with VW and will be the automaker's answer to the ID.5. The new lineup will see Ford phase out the Fiesta in 2023 and the Focus in 2025.
