Tesla has achieved “volume production” at its Gigafactory Berlin by reaching its target of producing 5,000 electric cars in a week. This milestone was initially intended to be achieved by the end of 2022, but after commencing production late in 2021, Tesla accomplished the production of 3,000 Model Y vehicles per week at the factory by year-end. The factory had reached a production rate of 4,000 units per week by the end of February and has now produced 5,000 Model Y vehicles in a week.
The news was confirmed by Tesla via a tweet, with the Gigafactory Berlin now having surpassed Gigafactory Texas in achieving the significant milestone. With the current production rate, the factory is capable of producing more than 250,000 vehicles annually.

Tesla has approval to manufacture 500,000 vehicles per year at the factory and is anticipated to introduce a new model after the successful production of the Model Y. Although the Model 3 was originally planned to be the next vehicle, Tesla has not commented on the matter for a while. Moreover, Tesla has submitted an application to expand the factory’s production capacity to one million vehicles per year.
The expansion will necessitate the expansion of the factory’s footprint, and environmental approval must be obtained before the company can proceed. Tesla's forthcoming production lines will use the company's new unboxed manufacturing method, which was unveiled at Investor Day earlier in the month.
