GM Europe President Jaclyn McQuaid has confirmed the company's plans to introduce an "all-electric portfolio" in Europe this fall, with the Nordic countries as the initial target, according to Autonews.
The Nordic region, comprising Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and particularly Norway, stands out as a lucrative market. Norway, in particular, witnessed more than 80 percent of new vehicles sold last year being electric. This high adoption rate has made the country an attractive entry point for foreign automakers.
To prepare for its European return, GM has established an advanced design unit in the UK and expanded its IT innovation hub in Ireland. The lineup for GM's European launch includes the Cadillac Lyriq, alongside vehicles from various other brands. Larger vehicles such as the GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado are less likely to be sold in the European market due to a preference for smaller cars.
Despite exiting Europe's volume segment in 2017, GM has continued to sell niche vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette and the Cadillac Escalade in the region. The specific country where GM will begin sales in Europe has yet to be disclosed.
