In July 2022, Hyundai revealed the N Vision 74 concept, a 1970s-inspired coupe concept with a high-performance hydrogen fuel cell hybrid drivetrain. The concept, which boasts dual rear-mounted electric motors producing over 500kW of power and over 900Nm of torque, along with a hydrogen fuel stack, has generated a lot of buzz in the automotive industry.

Recently, Korean news outlet Monday Today reported that the N Vision 74 concept would enter production under the name Pony Coupe, with a reveal scheduled for May 27 at a Pony Day celebration. However, Derek Joyce, Senior Manager of Product and Advanced Powertrain PR for Hyundai Motor Company America, has denied this claim.

In a statement to Carscoops, Joyce said, "We currently have no plan to put the model into commercial production." He also rebuked a similar report from Korea's Wikitree, stating, "There is no plan to mass-produce the Pony Coupe, and there is no Pony Day event planned."

Hyundai will preview a concept this autumn called the Pony Coupe, but it's just that - a concept. "While the heritage and spirit of Pony models have a lasting impact on the Hyundai Motor Company, we currently have no plan for a commercial production of the Pony Coupe Concept," said Joyce.

It's unclear if the upcoming concept will feature the N Vision 74's high-performance hydrogen fuel cell hybrid drivetrain or an electric powertrain. However, the N Vision 74 concept's driving range is over 600km, thanks to its 62.4kWh battery and 4.2kg hydrogen tank.

Hyundai has been tapping its heritage for some recent specials, revealing electro restomods of both the original Pony and original Grandeur. For the upcoming Pony Coupe concept, Hyundai has partnered with GFG Style, founded by Giorgetto Giugario and his son Fabrizio. The original Pony Coupe concept, as well as the regular Pony, was also designed by Giugario.
Hyundai's decision not to produce the Pony Coupe may disappoint fans who were eagerly anticipating the retro-inspired vehicle. However, the company's focus on sustainability and innovation remains unwavering.
