Ford Mustang GT3 Debuts Ahead Of Competing At Le Mans In 2024

Ford has unveiled the Ford Mustang GT3 race car, which will compete at Le Mans in 2024. The Mustang GT3 is based on the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse and features several modifications for racing.

The car has a more prominent front splitter, canards in the corners, additional lights on the grille, and a pair of massive outlets on the hood. It has flared fenders, airflow-enhancing cuts on the front fenders, inlets on the sides of the rear, and rear-mounted exhausts.

The Mustang GT3 has a large swan-neck-mounted wing and a massive diffuser in the lower section. The car sports a colorful livery with orange, blue, purple, and red, along with the new Ford Performance logo.

The Mustang GT3 is powered by a Coyote-based 5.4-liter V8 engine developed in partnership with M-Sport. It features a bespoke short-long arm suspension and a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox.

"It is not Ford versus Ferrari anymore. It is Ford versus everyone. Going back to Le Mans is the beginning of building a global motorsports business with Mustang, just like we are doing with Bronco and Raptor off-road," said Ford CEO Jim Farley in the Mustang GT3's announcement.

Proton Competition is the first team to commit to buying the Mustang GT3. The squad will compete with a pair of them in the 2024 World Endurance Championship season, which will include the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports will race two Mustang GT3s in the IMSA GTD Pro class, including the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
