Mercedes is teasing a high-tech, modern-day version of the classic C111 concept. The new concept is expected to feature a sleek, aerodynamic design, an oval-like digital display in the rear, and circular, pixelated taillights.

Mercedes has released teasers on social media, referring to the new concept as an "icon reloaded," a "legendary triumph," and a "reimagined icon." The original C111 debuted at the 1969 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The rear end of the new concept will feature an oval-like digital display reminiscent of the original C111. Circular, pixelated taillights similar to those found on the classic concept can also be seen in the teasers. The new C111 has a sleek shape and an aerodynamic design.

It is expected to eschew a Wankel engine and instead adopt an electric powertrain.

Mercedes previously made a series of C111 concepts in the 1960s and 70s, known for their extreme aerodynamics.

There is no information on when the new C111 will be unveiled.

The new C111 will be the latest recreation of a classic concept, following the trend set by Hyundai with their Pony concept and other retro-inspired concepts. Hyundai introduced the Pony concept in 2021 and showcased the retro-inspired Grandeur concept and the N Vision 74 concept, paying tribute to the Pony Coupe concept that debuted in 1974.
