2024 Toyota C-HR Debuts With PHEV, Offering Powerful Performance and Enhanced Design

Toyota has unveiled the highly anticipated 2024 Toyota C-HR, showcasing a new generation of design and performance. With its debut, the C-HR introduces a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) option, elevating its powertrain capabilities.

A Fresh Design Approach

After teasing the Prologue concept in December 2022, Toyota has now unveiled the production model of the second-generation C-HR. The new C-HR features a significantly redesigned exterior while maintaining the distinctive charm of its predecessor, which has gained popularity within the competitive small crossover segment. Developed and engineered in Europe, the C-HR's design incorporates a "super coupe" profile, complemented by striking 20-inch wheels and an eye-catching two-tone paint job.

Toyota has taken great care in refining the exterior details of the C-HR. By reducing shut lines and seamlessly integrating cameras, sensors, and headlight washers, the body achieves a smoother appearance and enhanced aerodynamics. The 2024 model measures 4360 millimeters (171.6 inches) in length, 1830 mm (72 in) in width, and stands at either 1558 mm (61.3 in) or 1564 mm (61.5 in) tall, depending on the version.

Interior

Step inside the cabin of the 2024 Toyota C-HR, and you'll be greeted by a refined and technologically advanced space. The 2640 mm (104 in) wheelbase allows for a spacious interior that boasts a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, seamlessly integrated with a touchscreen display of the same size. In higher trims, the C-HR offers additional features such as a head-up display, 64-color ambient lighting, a panoramic roof, and a premium JBL sound system.

Toyota has recognized the importance of physical controls for frequently used functions, even as screens grow larger in modern vehicles. As a result, the C-HR retains intuitive buttons alongside its cutting-edge technology. Furthermore, the sporty GR Sport Premiere Edition stands out with its distinctive red accents and GR badge, which carry through to both the interior and exterior, showcasing a sporty aesthetic.

Electrifying Performance

In line with its commitment to hybrid technology, Toyota offers the 2024 C-HR exclusively with hybrid powertrains for the European market. The available options include a 1.8-liter unit, a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid setup, and a 2.0-liter hybrid with optional all-wheel drive. These powertrains deliver impressive performance figures, with the base 1.8-liter unit generating a combined output of 140 hp (103 kW). The 2.0-liter setup offers even more power at 198 hp (145 kW), while the PHEV variant stands out with a remarkable 223 hp (164 kW).

Performance-wise, the entry-level 1.8-liter hybrid model accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 106 mph (170 km/h). The front-wheel-drive 2.0-liter model achieves the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 8.1 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive version accomplishes it in 7.9 seconds. Both 2.0-liter hybrid models boast a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). The PHEV version offers spirited acceleration, completing the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). Additionally, the plug-in hybrid C-HR provides an electric range of 41 miles (66 kilometers) when fully charged.

Availability

Toyota has already opened online reservations for the 2024 C-HR in Europe. Alongside the GR Sport Premiere Edition, a High Premiere Edition is also available, offering a range of premium features typically found on high-end variants. However, it is worth noting that the C-HR's successor will not be offered in the United States, where the first-generation model enjoyed popularity among customers.
