The spy photos reveal that the majority of the updates are concentrated at the front of the car. Although BMW decided to conceal the front bumper, the camouflage does not appear to mask significant alterations. However, keen-eyed observers have noticed subtle changes in the headlights' graphics. These small adjustments may signal minor tweaks to the fascia and grille that remain hidden from view.
At the rear, the BMW M3 sedan retains its familiar appearance, closely resembling the current model. Nevertheless, the automaker has cleverly concealed the M3 badge positioned above the taillights and the iconic roundel. Speculation suggests that the taillight graphics might receive some refinement before the official reveal.
The M3's facelift is not expected to alter the current powertrain lineup, which is just as well, given its formidable performance. Under the hood, the BMW M3 packs a potent twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, producing 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. While enthusiasts can opt for a six-speed manual transmission, those preferring the automatic can still enjoy a blistering 0-60 mph acceleration in just 4.1 seconds.

For even more power, the M3 Competition variant comes equipped with the same engine but pumps out an exhilarating 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Customers can opt for the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which catapults the rear-wheel-drive model to 60 mph in a staggering 3.8 seconds. Equipped with AWD, the M3 Competition xDrive shatters expectations by achieving 0-60 mph in an astonishing 3.4 seconds. Top speed, set at 155 mph, can be further increased to 180 mph with the M Driver's Package.
The spy photographers could not capture a clear image of the cabin, but insiders suggest that the interior remains largely unchanged. For the 2023 model, BMW generously bestowed the M3 with its state-of-the-art iDrive 8 infotainment system and a visually striking curved display. Expect these technologies to continue to enhance the driving experience in the refreshed M3. While some minor trim adjustments are possible, a complete design overhaul of the interior seems unlikely.
Speculation points to an unveiling at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.
