CATL introduced the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery called Shenxing. It will be in mass production by the end of 2023 and commercially available in the first quarter of 2024.

The Shenxing battery features a new graphite anode, a new electrolyte formulation, a thinner and safer separator, and improved ion transport. The battery generates less heat and comes equipped with an advanced battery management system (BMS). CATL asserts that the Shenxing battery is suitable for all types of vehicles.

The LFP battery will allow electric vehicles to travel up to 700 km on a single charge. The battery's full name is the Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, and according to CATL, it can add up to 400 km of range in 10 minutes thanks to its ultra-fast charging.

LFP batteries are not well suited to winter conditions, unlike sodium ion batteries, but CATL claims to have solved this problem with the Shanxing battery, as it can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes, even at -10°C.

“We hope that thanks to improved technology and reduced costs, Shenxing will become a standard product available for every electric vehicle,” Gao Han, CTO of CATL’s EV unit, said during the unveiling conference.
