Volkswagen has begun production of their new all-electric ID.7 sedan at their Emden, Germany plant, alongside the ID.4 model. First deliveries to customers are expected this fall.

This marks the start of series production (a small production run was initiated in June). The manufacturer is currently accepting orders in the Germany.

The Volkswagen ID.7 is a new MEB-based model equipped with an 81 kWh battery, which has a usable capacity of 77 kWh, similar to that of the ID.3 and ID.4. The expected driving range for the ID.7 Pro trim is 615 km (382 miles) according to the European WLTP test cycle.

Later, there will be an additional and entirely new battery option - 86 kWh of usable capacity (91 kWh total), which should give the ID.7 Pro S trim a WLTP range of 700 km (435 miles). The release date for this new battery has not been announced yet. The larger battery has a capacity for up to 200 kW of DC charging, whereas the smaller one holds up to 170 kW.

The electric motor is another interesting aspect of the Volkswagen ID.7. The Volkswagen ID.7 will feature the new APP550 electric motor with a maximum power output of 210 kW. It is worth noting that Volkswagen employed a 150 kW motor previously in the rear, with an extra 80 kW motor for all-wheel drive versions.

Although the Volkswagen ID.7 is rear-wheel drive, there is potential for an all-wheel drive model (known as GTX in Europe) to make an appearance.

The Volkswagen ID.7 is set to debut in the North American market by 2024. Additionally, the vehicle will also be sold in China, but manufactured locally through two joint ventures - FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen.
