That is around 600 million euros less than the previously mentioned 1.4 billion euros for 2024. “If that really happens, we are experiencing another act of confusion with the environmental bonus,” ZDK President Arne Joswig complains about this new turn. “Neither the car dealerships nor the customers are still able to plan the purchase of an e-vehicle sensibly. This will further slow down the ramp-up of e-mobility postulated by the federal government.”
According to the ZDK President, the planned further reduction in the subsidy pot will lead to another year-end rally in the registration of electric vehicles in December 2023. Because not only the funding pot is shrinking much more than expected. The subsidy rates per vehicle will also be reduced from January 1st, 2024.
Anyone registering a new electric vehicle this year can expect to receive a maximum of 6,750 euros (for a new vehicle up to 40,000 euros net list price). For new cars between 40,000 and 65,000 euros net list price, there is 4,500 euros. As of January 1, 2024, only new vehicles up to a net list price of 45,000 euros will be subsidized, with a subsidy of 4,500 euros per vehicle. The subsidy rates for the leasing of new and used EVs and for the purchase of used EVs will also decrease.
There is still uncertainty about how much funding will be available in 2023. The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), which is responsible for allocating the funds, has not yet published exact figures. Even this year, no customer can be sure of receiving the promised funding. At the ZDK's request, the BAFA has not yet announced the amount of funding available for this year.
“In order to make road traffic climate-friendly, we need stable framework conditions. This also means that the federal government will continue to maintain a positive and reliable funding environment in order to ensure the ramp-up of electromobility. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing the complete opposite. Therefore, no one should be surprised if the number of orders for e-vehicles is currently plummeting. It is also becoming increasingly difficult for dealers to get interested buyers to switch to e-vehicles," emphasizes the ZDK President.
