The leaked exterior shots give us a clear view of the Tiguan's smooth nose, wide lower grille and narrow upper grille, which consists of a simple flush panel that is almost certainly illuminated and connects the darkened headlight units. Instead of the strong straight lines running from nose to tail along the flanks of the previous-generation model, the new one has softer shapes, punctuated by a pair of eyebrow creases over the front and rear wheel arches and a gently rising waistline. And the rear's defining feature is a thick plastic panel that connects the two taillights.
Another image shows the interior, though it's of less interest since we already got a look at the exposed dashboard with its 15-inch tablet touchscreen and stalk-mounted shifter in VW's recent teaser release. Getting rid of the traditional console shifter has made room for a new "Driving Experience Switch," which can be seen in action in a new promo video from Volkswagen.
The rotary knob has a small display in the center. When changing drive modes, for example, the small display can show Individual or Sport. The same selection appears on the infotainment screen. The video doesn't explain how someone would switch between the three, but it could be related to pressing the center section.
The new Tiguan will debut this fall and go on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2024.
