Volkswagen recently released another teaser for the upcoming Passat, set to make its global debut on the final day of August. Major shifts are in store for this D-segment car, as VW plans to abandon the sedan version to concentrate exclusively on the wagon.

The latest teaser offers a substantial glimpse at the vehicle's headlights, featuring an optional matrix LED system capable of lighting up the road ahead for up to 500 meters (1,640 feet). Interestingly, the Passat will not incorporate the Touareg's more advanced HD matrix technology, which will be an extra-cost option for the forthcoming Tiguan.

Ahead of the 2024 Passat launch, VW has freely shared multiple preview images. Although completely covered in camouflage, the prototype revealed earlier this year carried design cues suggestive of the ID series, appearing much like an ID.7 powered by internal combustion engines. A fully electric version was also spotted recently, seen without any covering.

Inside, the Passat will undergo a complete overhaul, eliminating most of the conventional controls found in its predecessor. Next up in VW's model lineup to feature touch sliders beneath the infotainment touchscreen, the Passat will offer a standard 12.9-inch display and an optional 15-inch version. A fully digital 10.25-inch dashboard display is in the works, along with a new head-up display.

Sharing mechanical elements with the 2024 Skoda Superb, also teased today, the forthcoming Passat will be more spacious, offering increased legroom and additional cargo space. Engine options will include mild-hybrid gas and diesel variants, accompanied by plug-in hybrid systems that support DC charging and offer up to 75 miles of electric-only driving.

Contrary to its historical German production, the upcoming Passat will be manufactured in Bratislava, Slovakia. Its commercial release is planned for the first quarter of 2024, in tandem with the launch of the corresponding Skoda model.
