The 2024 Grand Kangoo, a 7-seat extension of the third-generation Renault Kangoo minivan, was recently unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich. This latest model offers choices between petrol, diesel, and electric drivetrains.

While Renault has yet to disclose the exact dimensions of the Grand Kangoo, it's speculated that the vehicle will be about 4,910 mm (193.3 inches) long, featuring a 3,100 mm (122.0 inches) wheelbase. If correct, this would make it 424 mm (16.7 inches) longer than the regular Kangoo, and include an additional 384 mm (15.1 inches) of space between the front and rear wheels.

The larger body and squared-off design of the Grand Kangoo allow it to comfortably seat seven adults while still offering 500 lt (17.7 cubic feet) of cargo room. The vehicle's five rear seats are not only retractable and removable but also sliding and foldable, enabling the cargo area to expand to a sizable 3,750 lt (132.4 cubic feet). This effectively turns the Grand Kangoo into a commercial-grade vehicle. If you fold down the front passenger seat, the vehicle can accommodate items up to 3.11 m (122.4 inches) long. The minivan also features 58 lt (2 cubic feet) of additional storage in the cabin, including underfloor storage spaces and a sliding drawer in the second row.

The third row in the Grand Kangoo boasts an impressive 164 mm (6.5 inches) of knee room, and getting in and out is made easier thanks to the extended 83 cm (32.7 inches) sliding doors, which are 18 cm (7.1 inches) longer than those in the standard Kangoo. Both standard and glazed tailgate options are available. For those in childcare or families with quintuplets (5 babies), the vehicle comes with 5 Isofix-compatible seats.

The Grand Kangoo will be offered in three trim options: the base-level Authentic, the balanced Equilibre, and the family-focused Techno. Most of the external design, apart from the rear doors and extended wheelbase, remains similar to the standard Kangoo. The interior features optional dark wood accents and an optional 10-inch digital display to lend a more upscale feel. The vehicle comes with 14 different ADAS systems, allowing for Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities.

Engine options for the new Grand Kangoo range from petrol and diesel to electric. The petrol engine, compliant with Euro 6E standards, is a 1.3-liter unit generating 130 hp (96 kW), available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed EDC automatic transmission. The 1.5-liter diesel engine delivers 96 hp (71 kW) and comes solely with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The electric version, the Grand Kangoo E-Tech, offers a single electric motor that generates a maximum of 122 hp (90 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. Its Eco mode limits power to 76 hp (56 kW) to extend range. Equipped with a 45 kWh lithium-ion battery, the electric version claims a WLTP-certified range of 265 km (165 miles). With an 80 kW DC fast charger, it can gain 80 km (50 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. The battery comes with an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, and will be replaced for free if its State Of Health (SoH) drops below 70%.

Production for the new Grand Kangoo will take place at Renault's Maubeuge facility in France. The plant will also produce the standard Kangoo, along with mechanically similar vans from Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, as well as the forthcoming Renault 4. Electric motors and chargers for the Kangoo E-Tech will be sourced from Renault's Cleon plant in Normandy.

Ordering for the Grand Kangoo is expected to begin in late 2023, with the first batch of vehicles likely to be delivered in the first part of 2024. Pricing details are still under wraps, but it's reasonable to expect that the Grand Kangoo will carry a higher price tag than its standard counterpart.
