First introduced in 2011, the current second-generation MG3 has undergone two facelifts, the latest in 2018. Yet, these updates have been insufficient in maintaining the car's modern feel. The upcoming next-gen model promises, at the very least, a revamped exterior.
Despite being covered in full-body camouflage, certain features of the new MG3 can be discerned. The front keeps the essence of the existing model, featuring a conspicuous grille and a narrow bottom opening accompanied by more aggressive air intakes. Situated beneath slimmer headlights, the fresh design bears similarities to the looks of the MG5.
Significant updates are seen at the back, where the MG3 adopts a more conventional rear design. The hatch is newly redesigned, complemented by overhauled taillights and a sportier rear bumper. Distinct design lines along the sides emphasize the doors and back fenders, contributing to a more dynamic appearance.
Next-gen MG3 spy photos
Though the pictures don’t provide a glimpse inside, the dashboard seems more complex than that of its predecessor. The upcoming MG3 is likely to sport a larger infotainment display and updated software. While a digital dashboard could be included, it’s important to remember that keeping the car affordable is a key goal, so it may not come with every conceivable feature.
As for what will be under the hood, specifics are still unknown. However, unlike the all-electric Cyberster, the new MG3 is expected to maintain a gasoline engine, potentially supplemented by electric aid. A hybrid or mild-hybrid variant is plausible, and other options might be region-specific. The car is slated for release in both European and Asian markets, and should offer both manual and automatic gearbox options.
The official unveiling date for the new MG3 is yet to be announced. However, based on the latest spy shots, it appears the hatchback could be production-ready sooner rather than later.
