Xiaomi's car factory in Beijing has been revealed through a satellite image, showcasing six shops on a vast 720,000 square meter site.

Construction of the Beijing plant began in April 2022 and was completed in June this year. The capacity of the first phase of the plant is 150,000 units per year.

The satellite image shows that the plant has a battery manufacturing, assembly, paint, body, die-casting and stamping workshop. In addition to the workshops, the facility includes a vehicle test track, a laboratory and an office building.

According to the latest reports, the factory started a test production run in August and is currently producing 50 cars per week.

In the same month, it was revealed that Xiaomi had started the first round of hiring for the factory as part of its preparations for the mass production phase. The company was looking for about 100 people. The large-scale hiring will begin in late 2023 or early 2024, when mass production is expected to begin.

In addition to the workforce, the factory needs two production licenses from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). According to local reports, the approvals are expected by the end of 2023.

As for Xiaomi's first car, there are already some spy shots emerged online. The electric sedan, codenamed MS11, will offer a long-range version with a 101 kWh battery that can travel 800 km. It will support 800 V DC charging. The EV is expected to start at 200,000 yuan ($27,400), competing with the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, and dozens of other Chinese EV sedans in the 200,000 yuan range. The model will reportedly be unveiled by the end of the year.
