The Toyota IMV 0 pickup is set to evolve into a market-ready vehicle, focusing on both cost-effectiveness and flexibility.

Known as the Rangga and also as the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV 0), this new Toyota pickup has stirred excitement for its practical, no-nonsense features. After unveiling several concept models in Indonesia this past August, Toyota is now rolling out more versions of the IMV 0 at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, heightening expectations for its production model set to launch next year.

At the event, Toyota's display will include two physical concept models based on the IMV 0. The "Mobility Cafe" will serve drinks from its food truck setup, while the "Capsule Bar" will offer chances to win toy cars through a basic question-and-answer game. But the standout models are seen in the official digital sketches.

One particularly striking model is a robust pickup complete with an extended cab, off-road tires, a front bumper outfitted with an LED bar and recovery points, and a roof rack for extra storage. It closely resembles a Land Cruiser due to the IMV 0’s retro design, and it's geared toward those who love outdoor adventures. Although it's a concept for now, there's hope that Toyota will develop it into a full-size model.

Another attention-grabbing model is the overlander version, which boasts an extended, fully enclosed cabin. The increased rear overhang and added height make room for a well-furnished living space, akin to a camper. The model also features off-road tires, ample ground clearance, and front-end protective gear, making it suitable for off-road journeys.

Toyota also revealed a disaster relief model adorned with Red Cross logos and two sporty low-rider pickup versions. Oddly enough, the wheels in some renderings are blurred, while others seem to have been created using software. What stands out is Toyota's wide array of ideas for the IMV 0's future.

In addition, Toyota will display the basic chassis-cab model of the IMV 0 at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. The company indicates that the rear section can be bolted onto the chassis, simplifying all kinds of custom modifications.

Introduced originally in December 2022, the IMV 0 has dimensions of 5,300 mm (208.7 inches) in length, 1,785 mm (70.3 inches) in width, and 1,740 mm (68.5 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm (121.5 inches). This puts it on par with the existing Toyota Hilux in terms of size, as they share the same wheelbase. Built on a ladder-frame structure, it has leaf spring suspension in the back. Reports indicate that it will be available in diesel, petrol, hybrid, and electric options, although specific details haven't been disclosed yet.

The IMV 0 is expected to debut as a production vehicle in 2024, aiming for emerging markets with a price tag lower than the Hilux. Keep an eye out for more updates in the coming months.
