Changes in the battery chemistry for the Mercedes EQS SUV were reported a few days ago by MBPassion, a website usually well-informed about Mercedes topics. Earlier models based on the EVA2 platform utilized NMC811 chemistry; the future chemistry wasn't specified in the report.
The updated PDF price list, dated October 17, includes the enhanced versions. The usable battery capacity increases by about nine percent, and the range for the 450+ improves by approximately seven percent to 720 km (WLTP).
Prices remain largely the same; only the top-tier 580 4Matic model now costs roughly 148,000 euro instead of 135,434 euro. According to MBPassion, deliveries will start "from the second decade in January 2024".
Additional updates according to the price list include a slightly expanded standard feature set: A heat pump and digital key readiness (enabling unlocking via smartphone) are now standard. According to media reports, the all-wheel-drive versions are also receiving the Disconnect Unit (DCU) for the first time. To the best of our knowledge, this is a mechanical coupling that disengages the front permanent magnet synchronous motor when full power isn't required.
Mercedes EQS (2023)
In the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, the DCU will be included from the start. This model will hit the market in the coming weeks, Mercedes announced on October 4. The specific battery to be used was not disclosed.
