Instead of unveiling the much-speculated NSX successor, Honda surprised the audience at the Japan Mobility Show by bringing back a familiar name from its sports car lineup: the updated Prelude Concept.

Honda has labeled the concept car as a "production-ready" prototype, signaling that it's poised to become a market-ready model in the near future. This move echoes Acura's successful revival of the iconic Integra nameplate a couple of years back.

While the original Prelude models were compact, two-door coupes, the latest concept diverges notably in its dimensions. The car is substantially larger, which is to be expected given the general trend toward bigger vehicles in recent years.

At first glance, the front end of the vehicle might be mistaken for a Toyota, possibly a new addition to the Crown series. The Prelude Concept features piercing headlights linked by an LED light bar situated just above the spot for a license plate. The bottom section of the front bumper sports a black mesh design, accented by a small vertical blue element.

The car's side view aligns more closely with what one would expect from a Prelude. Black-finished small wing mirrors, flush door handles, and chiseled rocker panels are evident. The concept rolls on gloss black wheels with blue brake calipers, subtly indicating its performance capabilities. The car's roofline swiftly slopes down toward a rear end that evokes a blend of Porsche 911 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 aesthetics. A full-width LED light bar, a black lip spoiler, and a gloss black bumper are the standout features at the back.

Details about the Prelude Concept remain limited for now. However, Honda portrays it as a "sporty" offering aimed at delivering "the joy of driving" and "provide extraordinary excitement that you have never felt before." Aside from confirming that the car will be electric, Honda hasn't disclosed further specifics about its powertrain.
