A rotary engine is a distinct kind of engine that generates power through the rotational motion of triangular-shaped rotors. Mazda's inaugural vehicle fitted with this engine was the Mazda Cosmo Sport (also known as Mazda 110S), which debuted in 1967. Since then, Mazda has consistently enhanced the performance attributes of their rotary engines, such as power output, fuel efficiency, and durability, maintaining its unique status as the sole mass manufacturer of these engines for a long duration.
This June, Mazda recommenced the manufacturing of vehicles equipped with rotary engines, 11 years after halting the production of the Mazda RX-8 back in 2012. Their twelfth rotary-engine model, the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV2, is set to hit the market soon. The European sales launch is scheduled for fall 2023, subject to market conditions.
Takeshi Mukai, who serves as Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer at Mazda, issued this statement regarding the milestone of two million total production units.
