Mercedes-Benz has yet to produce a G-Wagen Cabriolet modified by AMG. The 2013 G500 Final Edition, featuring a 388-horsepower V8, was the closest to this concept. However, Refined Marques, a German custom tuner, has boldly stepped in to fill this niche. Their creation, the Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet, is a remarkable custom model limited to just 20 units. It takes inspiration from the new G63, incorporating its powerful 577-hp twin-turbo V8 engine. While it retains the general style of the two-door Final Edition truck, it introduces an innovative twist with smaller rear doors for easier access.
Ahmed Al Bakry, CEO of Refined Marques, shared insights with Motor1. Initially, the rear doors were meant to open conventionally. However, Al Bakry decided to opt for suicide doors to enhance passenger accessibility, especially for larger individuals.
This decision came after an incident involving an unnamed American supermodel. She faced difficulties with the rear seats of her current G Cabrio, leading to a torn dress and broken heels. This prompted her to secure one of the 20 coveted spots for the G63 Cabriolet.
The idea for this convertible originated from Al Bakry's son, inspired by a unique G Brabus made for him. The concept evolved from a single custom design to a limited series of 20, driven by interest from wealthy collectors.
Refined Marques dedicated 18 months to perfecting this truck, aiming for a quality that meets or surpasses factory standards. This commitment to excellence was validated by a former Mercedes-Benz quality control head, who couldn't find any faults with the finished product.
Most of these exclusive G63 Cabriolets have already been sold. Al Bakry revealed to Motor1 that only one build slot remains. For those interested, acquiring one will likely require a secondary purchase at a premium price. The owner of the showcased China Blue model has already turned down an offer significantly higher than the $1.3 million starting price.
