DartSolar has created a solar panel for charging electric cars. Tesla Model Y was chosen to test and demonstrate the technology.

The DartSolar solar panel is currently in beta testing. The Tesla Model Y is used with nine large Beta One solar panels. The company's website states that the Beta One weighs less than 165 pounds (74kg) and fits in a standard parking space when unfolded.

Beta One features flexible solar panels without junction boxes, allowing for flat transport and easy assembly. The panels have a combined power output of 175 watts. The developer claims that Beta One is capable of generating 6 kWh with five hours of sunlight. That should be enough for about 20 miles (32 kilometres) of driving.

The amount of energy generated and the range of an electric car with these panels will obviously vary depending on location, weather and vehicle. The expected cost of the production product is $4,000. So the solar roof doesn't make much sense in terms of saving money on charging, but could theoretically be useful for use in remote locations with limited access to electricity.
