Ford owners will get access to Superchargers this spring, and the company will include the NACS charging port in its new EVs in 2025.

In an announcement made in May of the previous year, Ford declared its intention to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS). This strategic move is set to allow owners of Ford electric vehicles (EVs) access to Tesla's expansive Supercharger network. It didn't take long for nearly every other automaker to echo Ford's initiative, with many following suit in less than a year.

Ford CEO Jim Farley has now provided an update. In a post on the X social network (formerly Twitter), the executive said: "2021-24 model year Mustang Mach-E + F-150 Lightning owners, in the United States and Canada will be eligible & the reservation process will be validated by VIN. One charger per VIN." This will allow the vehicles to be charged at both Superchargers and other stations using a Tesla connector.

Jim Farley highlighted that this initiative is meant as a "thank you" gesture from Ford, aimed at enhancing the charging experience for its EV owners. The adaptors also pave the way for what's coming next; starting in 2025, new Ford EVs will be equipped with NACS charging ports. This innovation aims at eliminating the need for adaptors altogether, simplifying the charging process further.

From logistics to technical specifics, Ford has ensured that every aspect has been meticulously planned. Shipping costs for these adaptors will be covered entirely by Ford. Details on how owners can reserve their adapter and technical specifications will be announced soon. Furthermore, Ford intends to offer a seamless charging experience through apps like FordPass and an In-vehicle Public Charging App. These apps are designed to cover all aspects of charging including activation, ongoing charging processes, and payment methods.
