The companies didn't go into too many details, but confirmed that the model will be based on Hyundai's global eLCV platform and will make its debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Germany, in September.
The Iveco-badged vehicle will be the first export model to use Hyundai's new eLCV platform, which is designed specifically for commercial vehicles in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonne gross vehicle weight range. The companies added that Hyundai will manufacture and supply the chassis cab, while Iveco will customise and distribute it.
We can expect to learn more in the coming months, but it sounds like the vehicle will have a low load floor, which will allow for improved cargo carrying capabilities. That's not much to go on, but the model will give Iveco another entry into the busy van segment.
This isn't the first collaboration between Hyundai and Iveco, who have previously worked together on hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles such as the eDaily FCEV and E-Way FCEV. The companies added that this new agreement not only represents an expansion of their partnership to include a wider range of environmentally friendly products, but also underscores the two companies' shared commitment to accelerating the transition to carbon-neutral mobility and transport.
