BYD Seal started as a standalone model. However, the company has turned it into a family of vehicles, now consisting of Seal EV, Seal DM-i PHEV, Seal U (export name for Song Plus) and its newest member, Seal 06.
The Seal 06 measures 4,830/1,875/1,495 mm (length/width/height) and has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The kerb weight is 1,660 kg or 1,775 kg depending on the powertrain option.
The PHEV adopts the new design of the Ocean range, with "double L" shaped headlamps. At the rear, this model is similar to the BYD Seal DM-i, which has almost the same width and height. At the rear, this model is similar to the BYD Seal DM-i, which is almost the same width and height. The rookie will be available with an optional sliding sunroof.
The Seal 06 is based on the DM-i hybrid platform. It will be available with two powertrain variants. The first with a 120 kW electric motor, codenamed TZ210XYB, and the second with a 160 kW electric motor, TZ210XYC. Both variants will be powered by a 1.5 litre BYD472QC internal combustion engine with a peak power of 74 kW. The top speed of both models is limited to 180 km/h.
The 06 will use a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) blade battery from BYD's subsidiary FinDreams to store electrical energy. The MIIT hasn't revealed the battery capacity, but according to CarNewsChina, there will be two options with a capacity of around 10 kWh and 16 kWh, good for a CLTC range of 60 and 90 km respectively.
In China, sales of the BYD Seal 06 will start later in 2024. Prices have not yet been announced.
