China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) disclosed the BYD 06 design and key specifications.

BYD Seal started as a standalone model. However, the company has turned it into a family of vehicles, now consisting of Seal EV, Seal DM-i PHEV, Seal U (export name for Song Plus) and its newest member, Seal 06.

The Seal 06 measures 4,830/1,875/1,495 mm (length/width/height) and has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The kerb weight is 1,660 kg or 1,775 kg depending on the powertrain option.

The Seal 06 is based on the DM-i hybrid platform. It will be available with two powertrain variants. The first with a 120 kW electric motor, codenamed TZ210XYB, and the second with a 160 kW electric motor, TZ210XYC. Both variants will be powered by a 1.5 litre BYD472QC internal combustion engine with a peak power of 74 kW. The top speed of both models is limited to 180 km/h.

The 06 will use a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) blade battery from BYD's subsidiary FinDreams to store electrical energy. The MIIT hasn't revealed the battery capacity, but according to CarNewsChina, there will be two options with a capacity of around 10 kWh and 16 kWh, good for a CLTC range of 60 and 90 km respectively.

In China, sales of the BYD Seal 06 will start later in 2024. Prices have not yet been announced.
