The all-electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have been renamed EX40 and EC40 respectively to blend seamlessly with the other electric models: the EX30, EX90 and EM90.

In recent years, Volvo's model range has been actively expanding and the Swedish brand's portfolio has become a bit confusing. Therefore, the company decided to simplify the naming scheme.

The electric cars were dealt with most dramatically - the prefix "Recharge" was removed. At the same time plug-in hybrids, such as XC60 Recharge, S60 Recharge and others, received the designation "T6" or "T8", depending on the total power. Previously, these designations were used for petrol models, but since Volvo will be an all-electric brand by 2030, there will be no confusion.

The Volvo news doesn't end there, with the renamed EX40 and EC40 getting some new additions. For example, in some markets, all-wheel drive versions with two engines will be available with an optional Performance software package that "unlocks" an additional 34 hp. Thus, power will increase to 436 hp. The option will be available for the new EX40 and EC40, as well as the already sold C40 and XC40 Recharge 2024 model year.

The XC60 and XC90 models get an upgraded B5 hybrid engine. The smaller of the two crossovers now uses about four per cent less fuel and emits less CO2. The larger model saves about two per cent in fuel economy.

Apparently, the XC60 Black Edition launched last year proved to be a success, as the same version is now available on the XC40, EX40 and C40 models. The Black Edition trio is offered exclusively with gloss black 20-inch wheels, Onyx Black paint, glossy badges and an interior in dark tones.
