Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the Renault 5 delighted with a retro-futuristic design that combines motifs of the classic 5 with modern solutions such as the battery level display on the bonnet. However, the surprises didn't end there. It turns out that 104 accessories have been developed for the compact hatchback, including 33 specialised accessories.
One such specialised accessory is a wicker basket for carrying baguettes, mounted to the right of the centre console. The basket was designed with the help of French craftsman Marguerite Erlan. "No more flour or crumbs on your lovely upholstery!", the Renault press release emphasises.
3D printing technology paves the way for the creation of a wide range of decorative attachments or additional storage compartments with customised lids.
Another interesting accessory is the so-called "e-pop shifter". This is a customisable transmission selector lug, mounted on the steering column and resembling a lipstick case. e-pop shifter can be personalised without special tools, with something pointed, as when removing a SIM card from a smartphone.
Many interesting details can be seen on the outside of the car. For example, the headlights have the French flag embedded in them, and the wheel caps feature a stylised number 5 instead of the Renault diamond. Buyers will also be able to choose from a variety of roof and front door stickers. The overall styling of the Renault 5 is reminiscent of the previous generation models with its upright taillights and the R5 Turbo's square fenders.
The Renault 5 measures 3.92 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.54 metres. The hatchback has a ground clearance of 145 mm and a curb weight of 1,350kg or 1,450kg. The battery capacity is 40 kW or 52 kW. The electric car will be available in three versions:
- 70 kW (95 hp / 215 Nm)
- 90 kW (120 hp / 225 Nm)
- 110 kW (150 hp / 245 Nm).

The Renault 5 will have a starting price of around €25,000. However, the more expensive version with a 52 kWh battery and a range of 400 kilometres on the WLTP cycle will be the first to go on sale. Sales are expected to start later this year.
