Korean premium brand Genesis has unveiled the GV60 Magma hot electric car concept, which is a precursor to a whole line of similar cars.

Genesis is creating its own performance car division to compete with BMW M, Mercedes AMG and Audi RS. The company announced the high-performance with three concepts. The first was a hotter variant of the G70 sedan, the second was the more "spicy" G80 with an internal combustion engine, and the third was the GV60 Magma crossover presented yesterday in New York.

The Genesis GV60 is built on Hyundai Group's E-GMP platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6 electric vehicles. Notably, there are already high-performance versions of electric cars based on this platform: the Kia EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. Now their more premium relative has received a high-performance modification as well.

The Magma version differs from the regular Genesis GV60 with an aggressive rear wing and bright colouring. Genesis has not announced any technical details, how much the car will cost in this version, when it will become a production car and how far it will be able to drive on one battery. It should be noted that the current GV60 in the Performance configuration is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, but it is not designed for a long drive in such harsh modes. The Magma is probably better suited for such tasks.

A Genesis spokesperson told InsideEVs that the Magma is not just an updated Ioniq 5 N, but declined to provide further information.
