This move follows the company's successful entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its all-electric sedan, the SU7, which received 50,000 firm orders within just 27 minutes of its launch. The upcoming SUV would mark a significant step for Xiaomi as it seeks to build on its initial momentum in the EV industry.
The SU8 is anticipated to be a battery-electric vehicle that will also offer an electric range-extended option, a first for any Xiaomi model. Reports from MyDrivers suggest that the SUV will ride on a completely new platform, distinct from the Modena platform used for the SU7 sedan. This new platform is described as being capable of accommodating a range-extender powertrain and is expected to be similar in size to the Porsche Cayenne.
