Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant primarily known for its electronics and smartphones, is reportedly planning to launch a new electric SUV, potentially named the SU8, by the end of this year.

This move follows the company's successful entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its all-electric sedan, the SU7, which received 50,000 firm orders within just 27 minutes of its launch. The upcoming SUV would mark a significant step for Xiaomi as it seeks to build on its initial momentum in the EV industry.

The SU8 is anticipated to be a battery-electric vehicle that will also offer an electric range-extended option, a first for any Xiaomi model. Reports from MyDrivers suggest that the SUV will ride on a completely new platform, distinct from the Modena platform used for the SU7 sedan. This new platform is described as being capable of accommodating a range-extender powertrain and is expected to be similar in size to the Porsche Cayenne.

Renderings of the SUV have already emerged online, including these from independent artist Sugar Design. The illustrations portray the SUV with headlights and taillights resembling those of the sedan but integrated into bodywork reminiscent of the Ferrari Purosangue.
