Volkswagen has unveiled the new Passat Pro in China, expanding its lineup in a market with a strong preference for sedans. The latest model, not available in the US, follows the debut of the ninth generation Passat last year, which was initially offered only as a Variant (estate) style in Europe.

The new Passat Pro shares several body panels and design features with its European variant sibling, including ID-style headlights and a 'smiling' bumper intake. Unique to this model are sportier bumpers akin to the EU-spec R-Line trim. Additionally, it boasts full-width taillight clusters and conservative rear design keynote with decorative inlets.

Regarding size, the sedan stretches 5,006 mm long and stands 1,489 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,871 mm—30 mm more extended than related models. Options for buyers include wheels sized at 17-, 18-, or 19-inches.

Although details on its interior specifics are sparse, expectations lean towards a shared digital cockpit setup with Magotan. Technology highlights likely feature a large 12.9-inch touchscreen equipped for local needs alongside advanced comfort and safety technologies.

The powertrain options revealed include two non-electrified gasoline engines—a 1.5-liter turbo making 160 hp and a robust 2.0-liter turbo producing 220 hp. These figures place it apart from the European models that offer hybrid choices.

The market launch of the new VW Passat Pro in China is expected in the third quarter of 2024. Just like its predecessor, the new model will be produced by SAIC Volkswagen in Shanghai and is not intended for export markets. The same applies to the similarly-sized Magotan that will be produced by the FAW Volkswagen joint venture.
