Tesla inadvertently revealed details about its new Model 3 Performance. An eagle-eyed reader of InsideEVs found these details hidden within the source code of Tesla's UK configurator.

This mishap comes after Tesla introduced an updated Model 3 last September sans the anticipated performance-oriented model. The leak disclosed several upgrades to the Model 3, particularly in its drive capabilities. Reportedly, the new model boasts all-new, high-performance drive units capable of producing over 500 horsepower. This makes it more powerful than its predecessor, which had an output of 505 hp.

Additional enhancements include a tweaked chassis and suspension aimed at delivering sharper responses to driver inputs. The braking system has been improved for better pedal feel and enhanced heat management, promising more consistent performance during use. Complementing this are lightweight, staggered wheels and unspecified advanced tires designed for better cornering traction.

As for cosmetic changes, the same source code mentions "redesigned front and rear fascias, rear diffuser, and carbon fiber spoiler." Inside, it's getting an "all-new seat design with enhanced side and cushion bolsters" and ventilation. To set it apart from the lesser Model 3 versions, Tesla is giving the Performance a "lightweight carbon fiber decor and refined weave pattern."

Strikingly, performance specifics such as acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) are still placeholders in the configuration tool. However, for context, the previous Model 3 could accelerate in 3.1 seconds. Other details about the battery capacity suggest no change from the previous assumption of an 82.0-kilowatt-hour pack which allowed a range of approximately 315 miles (506 km) per EPA guidelines.

Rumors had circulated that this new iteration might be rebranded to 'Model 3 Ludicrous'; however, it will retain its 'Performance' moniker as per latest insights from InsideEVs following their validation of the leaked source code material.
