The only other information shared by Mazda is that the third-generation model will have a hybrid powertrain of its own design. The Japanese brand left it open whether this would be a traditional hybrid or a plug-in hybrid.
It's worth noting that the company has used Toyota's hybrid systems for some models. For example, in China there is a CX-50 with the powertrain of the Toyota RAV4. In the same document, Mazda states that a hybrid CX-50 is planned for other markets in the second half of 2024.
When the CX-50 was launched in the U.S. in 2022, some wondered if the CX-5 would be retired. As it turns out, the two models will coexist peacefully. That makes sense, considering the CX-5 was nearly three-and-a-half times as popular as the CX-50 in North America last year. It's also popular in Europe.

Still, we can't help but notice that the company's SUV lineup is getting fuller. In Europe, the CX-30 and CX-5 are now joined by the CX-60 and CX-80. The latter use a new platform with rear-wheel drive and inline six-cylinder engines, including diesel. Although the electric Mazda 6 is also mentioned in the document, unfortunately it will only be sold in China, where a plug-in hybrid will also be available.
What's for the future? Mazda promises to launch its first electric vehicle on its own platform in 2027, followed by a "full-scale electric car rollout" between 2028 and 2030.
