On June 1, the latest Mini Cooper John Cooper Works (JCW) model will make its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. This event marks the first public appearance of the new camouflaged JCW since the introduction of the Mini Cooper EV last September. The race serves as a prelude to the full reveal of this eagerly awaited model set for later this fall.

Attendees at the event will witness a gas-powered version of the JCW participating under Bulldog Racing in category SP 3T. This showing comes ahead of its market launch slated for 2025. Despite not releasing specifics on this gas model, the electric version promises about 250 horsepower, an improvement over Cooper SE's 214 horsepower.

The design features for this new model include bespoke camouflage that pays homage to iconic Mini race cars from the 1960s. Additionally, it proudly sports the number “37” logo, commemorating Mini's victory at the 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo.

Mini isn't ready to release detailed information about what's under the hood, but it did confirm that the John Cooper Works will be offered with both gas and all-electric powertrains. We don't know how much power either version will make, but the Cooper SE makes 214 hp, and rumors point to the new electric JCW making around 250 hp.

Mini will focus on balancing weight and handling in the new JCW, sticking with just one electric motor to turn the front wheels. The higher output will result in Mini giving the model a larger 54.2 kilowatt-hour battery pack.

A late 2024 reveal means the JCW will likely go on sale in 2025. It'll probably start at around $40,000, depending on the powertrain. The 24 Hours of Nürburgring kicks off on June 1.
