Stellantis is recalling 1.16 million vehicles in North America due to a software problem that causes the reversing cameras to not work. The recall involves Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, Jeep Compass, Jeep Wagoneer, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500 and Ram Promaster vehicles of various model years.

The problem is due to a software malfunction that causes the reversing camera to malfunction. This malfunction could potentially increase the risk of accidents when vehicles are reversing. In addition, a malfunctioning reversing camera is a violation of a federal safety standard in the United States. To promptly address this safety issue, Stellantis has already updated approximately 735,000 vehicles with an over-the-air software update.

Car owners can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) on NHTSA's website at NHTSA.gov. They are also encouraged to contact their local dealers for assistance and more information.

Stellantis has experienced other technical issues over the past year prior to this incident, including problems with Jeep wheels falling off and ABS malfunctions in some Dodge and Ram models. This latest recall announcement, however, is the largest.
