The A390_β concept showcases what Alpine calls a "sport fastback," steering clear of terms like crossover or SUV. Alpine's CEO describes it as "an A110 with five seats," hinting at the company's desire to maintain its sporty image.
The French automaker showed off the concept ahead of the Paris Auto Show.
The concept's sleek design features frameless windows, a wraparound rear glass, and a higher-than-usual ground clearance. Its exterior boasts a striking Bleu Specular color with black accents, drawing inspiration from the 2022 Alpine Alpenglow concept for lighting and the A110 for character lines.
Aerodynamics play a crucial role in the A390_β's design. The front sports a micro-perforated grille, side scoops, and a flying bridge on the hood. At the rear, a shark fin and active aero elements on the diffuser and taillights improve performance. The taillights can extend by 80 mm (3 inches) to enhance aerodynamics.
The wheels are a standout feature, with 22-inch fronts and 23-inch rears inspired by snowflakes. They're illuminated, transparent, and designed to showcase the car's torque vectoring system.
Inside, the concept boasts a futuristic bucket seat with two positions and a spacecraft-like cockpit. The floor mimics rock formations, adding a unique touch. However, the production version will likely feature a more practical five-seater layout.
Alpine confirms that the A390 will come with dual electric motors, all-wheel drive, and an Active Torque Vectoring system. It'll be built on the AmpR Medium architecture, a rebranded version of the CMF-EV platform shared with models like the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya.
The A390 will be the second model in Alpine's "Dream Garage" lineup, following the A290 hot hatchback and preceding an electric successor to the A110 sports car.
While Alpine hasn't revealed power figures or range estimates for the production A390, the concept's impressive features and design suggest an exciting addition to the electric vehicle market when it arrives in 2025.
