Subaru has launched a new Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan. The car will hit the roads in December, featuring a hybrid system that promises better efficiency.

The new Crosstrek Hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter boxer engine with two electric motors and a 1.1 kWh battery pack. Subaru developed the boxer engine from scratch, giving it 160 horsepower and 209 Nm of torque.

The car's battery is a lithium-ion type, tucked away at the back. One of the electric motors acts as a generator, while the other, a traction motor, can power the car on its own in some situations. This traction motor packs a punch with 120 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque.

Subaru stuck with its signature all-wheel drive setup for the Crosstrek Hybrid. They didn't go for a rear electric axle like Toyota does.

The new hybrid system makes the car 20% more fuel-efficient than the current one. It can go over 1,000 km on a single tank, which is pretty impressive.

For the outdoorsy types, Subaru added a neat feature. The car has a 100V/1500W power outlet that can juice up your gear at campsites.

Subaru offers two trim levels for the Crosstrek Hybrid. The basic one, called e-Boxer, comes with 18-inch aluminum wheels and a two-tone interior. It's got a leather-wrapped steering wheel, black trim, and a 4.2-inch information display.

If you want all the bells and whistles, go for the EX trim. It adds a big 12.3-inch digital dash, GPS navigation, and Subaru's EyeSight system. This system includes some cool tech like Active Lane Change Assist and Traffic Jam Assist.

Subaru is currently accepting reservations in Japan and those who act fast will receive a Crosstrek-branded portable refrigerator/freezer.
