The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, claims these windshields can't handle even the smallest impacts. This issue is causing big problems for drivers who bought the Defender, a vehicle marketed as tough enough to climb mountains and ford rivers.
Owners have reported the problem to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). They say it's not just annoying - it's dangerous. Cracked windshields can block the driver's view, cause distractions, and even lead to injuries from loose glass.
Stephen Seiber's story shows how frustrating this can be. He got his 2020 Defender in September 2020. By March 2022, a tiny pebble cracked his windshield. The crack spread fast, and when he tried to get it fixed, he learned replacement windshields weren't available. It took over a month to get a new one.
But Seiber's troubles didn't end there. His new windshield cracked again in July 2023, costing him over $2,100 to replace. Then, in March 2024, he had to shell out $2,471 for a third replacement.
Seiber's not alone. Chris Robinson has gone through five windshields in just four years. That's a ridiculous number for any car owner.
The lawsuit claims Jaguar Land Rover knows about this problem but won't fix it under warranty. The owners think it's either bad materials in the windshield or a problem with how the Defender is built.
Now, the plaintiffs are seeking compensation for the damages caused by the alleged defect, along with attorneys’ fees, court costs, and a jury trial.
