Romanian brand Dacia, owned by Renault Group, has started road tests of an unusual version of the Duster crossover. It combines a mild hybrid MHEV running on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with an all-wheel drive system.

Spanish website Motor.es has published photos of a prototype of the current, third generation Duster crossover in the yet officially non-existent ECO-G 4x4 modification. Curiously, the prototype bears the emblem of the parent company Renault, not Dacia. Although there is no sensation in this, because depending on the market, this model is sold under both Romanian and French brands.

Another interesting thing is that it is reported to be a Duster 4x4 with a 1.2-litre ECO-G three-cylinder engine. In this modification, the engine is prepared to run on petrol or LPG. This engine is also electrified with 48-volt hybrid technology (MHEV). All-wheel drive is realised by an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The powertrain output is 150 hp. Transmission is automatic with double clutch.

According to rumours, the ECO-G MHEV 4x4 powertrain will be announced by the end of this year or, at the latest, at the beginning of 2026. In addition to the Duster, it will appear on the 4.57-metre Dacia Bigster crossover.
