Porsche has set a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous drift on ice among electric cars. The all-wheel drive Taycan GTS drifted 132 laps in 46 minutes. The distance was 17.503 kilometres, significantly exceeding the previous record of 14.809 kilometres.
The first attempt at the record run took place on the afternoon of 14 January 2025 on the ice track at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, some 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. The Porsche Experience team created a drift lap with a diameter of 59 metres. However, under the continuous load of the Taycan, the ice track deteriorated faster than expected. The organisers therefore had to abort the first attempt after about 11 kilometres.
For the second attempt, the team switched to shorter spikes and took advantage of the fact that the ice temperature dropped again as darkness fell. This attempt proved successful. In the record run, both axles of the Taycan GTS were fitted with commercially available Michelin tyres with millimetre studs.
The car was equipped with a professional GPS device for precise route measurement. It not only documents the distance travelled, but also records the driver's actions, such as steering movements, accelerator and braking, as well as the overloads acting on the car.
The Taycan GTS is an all-wheel drive version of the electric model. Power output is 445 kW (605 hp), and with Launch Control activated it reaches 515 kW (700 Nm). The maximum torque with Launch Control is 790 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.3 seconds and the top speed is limited at 250 km/h. The range on the WLTP cycle is 552 kilometres.
