Audi has expanded the new generation of the Q5: in addition to MHEV plus technology engine models, the standard Q5 and Q5 Sportback models now come with plug-in hybrid powertrains (PHEV).

Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro and Audi Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro are available in two power variants: 220 kW and 270 kW. Both series feature a dual-clutch transmission and quattro ultra all-wheel drive.

The cars are equipped with a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine with 185 kW and an electric motor. In the 270 kW version, the Q5 and Q5 Sportback can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The 220 kW version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h in both cases.

One of the innovations is the high-voltage battery. In the Q5 e-hybrid, the cells are arranged in two layers, one above the other. Audi has increased the nominal battery capacity to 25.9 kWh (20.7 kWh available), which is approximately 45% more than that of its predecessor. The maximum AC charging power is 11 kW. Charging to 100 percent from a fully discharged battery takes 2.5 hours.

There are two operating modes available: "EV" and "hybrid." In EV mode, the SUV and Sportback operate solely on electric power. While driving in hybrid mode, the management system maintains a certain charge level to preserve enough electric power for further use. In addition to the automatic hybrid mode, the desired charge level can now be individually selected for the first time using a digital slider.

Audi has also improved the efficiency of regenerative braking. The degree of regenerative braking in EV mode can be adjusted at three different levels using paddles on the steering wheel.

Both models come with expanded standard equipment. The 220 kW version includes an S sports suspension and a tri-zone automatic climate control. The top 270 kW version additionally features LED plus headlights and LED pro taillights. The standard MMI experience plus multimedia system includes the Audi app store, smartphone interface, and an enhanced Hi-Fi audio system.

All models come with an S line interior package with sports seats in a combination of leather and synthetic leather in black, 19-inch alloy wheels, and red brake calipers. A practical feature is the fully adjustable rear seats that can slide in length and change the angle of the backrest.

In Germany, the Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro with 220 kW starts at 63,400 euros. The Sportback version starts at 65,900 euros. The top models with 270 kW cost 71,800 euros for the SUV and 74,300 euros for the Sportback.

The cars are manufactured in Mexico at the San José Chiapa plant. Orders in Europe will start being taken in mid-June 2025, with the first deliveries planned for the third quarter.
