In China, Toyota sells two variants of its bestseller. The Wildlander is produced by a joint venture with GAC, while the RAV4 is manufactured in partnership with FAW. While the sixth generation of the RAV4 is coming to international markets, the Chinese joint ventures are preparing their own interpretations of this crossover for the premiere.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) has released the first images of the new GAC Toyota Wildlander. While the predecessor was notable for its original design of the front and rear, the Wildlander now closely resembles the international RAV4, albeit with technical variations.

Outside, the crossover can only be distinguished by the "Wildlander" lettering on the tailgate. Otherwise, it corresponds to the RAV4 Core version with a color-matched grille and decorative inserts on the bumpers.
According to the certification documents, the length of the model is 4,600 mm, the width is 1,855 mm, and the height is 1,680 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm. These dimensions are similar to those of the RAV4 for Europe and North America.
The main differences from the global RAV4 are hidden under the hood. While the international version is fully transitioning to hybrid drives, the Chinese Wildlander has retained the 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 171 hp, which can be combined with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
There will also be two self-charging hybrids available. One uses a 2.0-liter engine with 152 hp, while the other uses a 2.5-liter engine with 185 hp. Both will be supplemented by electric motors, and for the hybrids, versions with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive E-Four are planned.
The premiere of the updated GAC Toyota Wildlander is expected in the coming months. A version from FAW Toyota is likely to appear soon as well.
