DCT (dual-clutch transmission) is distinguished by high efficiency and speed, but the complexity and maintenance issues force Hyundai to return to classic gearboxes.

Hyundai intends to gradually abandon the DCT transmission and switch to a torque converter automatic transmission in all models that have a manual transmission in the base version. This was reported by the Spanish site Motor.es

Gasoline and diesel versions receive 8-speed transmissions, while hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) receive 6-speed transmissions. The reason for the changes: high costs of warranty replacements and reputational losses.

A couple of years ago, DCT transmissions were installed in most Hyundai models worldwide, but recently the Korean brand is abandoning them due to persistent problems. Thousands of cars have entire gearboxes replaced under warranty, leading to reputational and financial losses.

For instance, the manufacturer recently made an important decision to abandon the dual-clutch transmission in the Santa Fe. It was replaced with an 8-speed torque converter transmission. It does not provide the same shifting speed as the DCT, but it is comfortable and users do not need to adapt to its operation.
