The top SUV from the Mercedes-Benz brand has been updated both inside and out. It is still offered with diesel and gasoline engines, including a V8 with 537 hp.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS has always been considered the pinnacle of the brand's SUV lineup - a kind of S-Class for those who need seven full seats and all-wheel drive. The 2026 update brought the model not only a changed appearance but also a transition to its own MB.OS operating system, which promises to transform the car interaction experience.

Appearance: more light and "star" style

Externally, the GLS has retained its monumental 5.2-meter length but now looks more modern. The grille now features an illuminated frame and new filling with three horizontal slats. However, the main feature is the new generation Digital Light headlights. They use micro-LED technology, allowing for much more precise light beam formation. Also, the headlights are 40% brighter than the previous ones and consume half the energy.

The rear changes are subtle but noticeable: a light strip connecting the taillights has appeared with a new star-shaped design. This solution emphasizes the body width and makes the car recognizable in the dark. New body colors and wheel sizes up to 22 inches have been added.

Interior: the dominance of screens and artificial intelligence

The interior of the GLS now resembles a modern office or living room thanks to the MBUX Superscreen system. It's a huge glass panel housing three separate 12.3 MP displays each: for the driver, central, and personal for the passenger. The aforementioned MB.OS manages all this hardware, supporting over-the-air updates, integrating Google Maps, and featuring a built-in app store.

Passenger comfort remains a priority. Even adults up to 1.94 meters tall can comfortably sit in the third row. For those traveling in the middle, two 11.6-inch Full HD monitors and removable remote controls are available. The Energizing Air Control system continuously filters and ionizes the air, which is especially relevant on long trips.

Technology: hybridization and "smart" suspension

Under the hood is total electrification in the form of "mild" hybrids. All engines work with a 48-volt starter-generator, which adds power during acceleration. The diesel lineup includes the 350d (313 hp) and 450d (367 hp) versions. Gasoline enthusiasts are offered the 450 model with 381 hp or the top 580 4MATIC with a 4.0-liter V8 with 537 hp, which accelerates the SUV to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The E-Active Body Control suspension deserves special attention. It scans the road 1,000 times per second and individually adjusts each shock absorber. This allows the car to ignore potholes or "jump" out of sand thanks to the special Free-Wheel mode. According to official manufacturer data, the Airmatic system now works with cloud data for predictive comfort settings.

Official prices have not yet been announced, but you can expect a starting price of 120,000 euros for the base diesel version. The novelty will appear at European dealers in the second half of 2026.
