The Fiat crossover repeats what has already been done with the Peugeot 208 and 2008, and what almost all Stellantis models equipped with the 1.2 Puretech engine will eventually follow.
Goodbye, belt
The most significant technical change concerns the engine design. The new 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo unit from the Stellantis group got rid of its controversial feature — the timing belt that works in an oil bath. This design feature was a headache for owners due to the risk of rapid belt wear and clogging oil channels with its decomposition products, which led to fatal consequences for the engine.
Now instead of a belt, a timing chain drive is used. The 1,199 cm³ engine is equipped with a turbocharger with variable geometry and a direct high-pressure injection system of 350 bar. The power is 101 hp at 5,500 rpm, and the maximum torque of 205 Nm is available from 1,750 rpm. This promises good elasticity and agility in city traffic.
Fiat 600 Street
Only "manual" and front-wheel drive
The gasoline Fiat 600 is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. This move allows Fiat to significantly lower the entry threshold for purchasing a crossover. The new version will be available in all trim levels: Pop, Icon, Business, La Prima, and Sport. A special Street series (only 2,000 units) with a two-tone body and 18-inch wheels is also announced.
Pricing policy and prospects
In Italy, the cost of the basic Pop version with the new engine starts from €23,850. For comparison, the 110 hp hybrid modification costs from €25,850. Thus, abandoning electrification and switching to manual transmission control saves about €2,000
The manufacturer also offers special financing conditions through car recycling programs, which can reduce the price to €18,950. The first deliveries of vehicles to dealers are scheduled for June 2026.
