When you have hundreds of horsepower under the hood, and acceleration to "100" takes only seconds, the only thing separating you from the ditch is four small contact patches with the asphalt. Audi Sport and Pirelli understand this well, which is why their latest collaboration focuses not on screens or lighting but on what truly matters for drivability. The new Pirelli P Zero R tires were specially designed for the updated Audi RS 3 and Audi RS 5 to get the most out of these vehicles.
Between the track and daily drives
The main task for engineers was to create a product that approximates the characteristics of semi-slicks like the P Zero Trofeo R while remaining suitable for daily use. It’s the eternal compromise: track tires typically "harden" in the rain and wear out quickly, while regular road tires "float" under extreme loads. In Breuberg, where Pirelli’s R&D center in Germany is located, together with the Milan office, they found the golden mean.
The secret lies in the tire compound and braking
Special attention was given to the tire’s ability to provide stable braking. The new component mix allows for a high level of grip even at low temperatures, which is critical for safety on public roads. For RS models, where power and mass require precise control, this means shortening the braking distance and predictable behavior in turns.

Hybrid challenge for the new RS 5
The situation with the Audi RS 5 (2026) proved to be even more complicated. It is the first plug-in hybrid in the RS lineup, which means it became heavier due to the battery and electric motor. The large weight plus instant torque is a real test for tire construction. To prevent the tires from "folding" under load, Pirelli developed a reinforced structure with a high load index. This allows maintaining steering precision even when the heavy hybrid enters a steep curve at high speed.
Tested by the "Green Hell"
Final tuning took place at the Nürburgring and testing centers in Spain. Tests confirmed that P Zero R is not only fast but also comfortable. They do not turn the ride into a spine challenge at every bump, which is important for those who use the RS as a primary vehicle. As a result, RS 3 and RS 5 owners get motorsport technologies packaged in a civilian format, where every millimeter of tread works for stability.
