The BYD Song Pro DM-i crossover will soon receive a powerful update: the electric range will increase to 200 km, and charging to 97% will take only 9 minutes.

According to data from the Chinese state regulator, the BYD Song Pro DM-i will receive a technical upgrade aimed at revitalizing buyer interest in the lineup. The main focus is a new traction battery that provides a third more electric range and supports ultra-fast charging.

New battery and range

The updated Song Pro DM-i will feature a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufactured by FinDreams. The battery capacity has increased to 34.3 kWh, and its weight is 258 kg. This allows for an electric range of up to 200 km under the WLTC cycle. If recalculated using the more optimistic Chinese CLTC standard, the range without connecting the internal combustion engine reaches 290 km.

For comparison: the current top version of the crossover comes with a 26.6 kWh battery, which is enough for 150 km under WLTC. Thus, the increase in autonomy is over 33%. At the same time, fuel consumption with a discharged battery remains at 4.6 liters per 100 km.

Charging speed and technology

One of the key features of the novelty is the "flash charging" technology. Using BYD-produced megawatt charging stations, the car can recharge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes. Thus, the time spent at the station is now comparable to refueling with regular gasoline.

Under the hood, there is a combination of a 1.5-liter engine with 99 hp and an electric motor with 161 hp, both driving the front wheels. It is also expected that the novelty will receive the optional DiPilot 300 driver assistance system based on lidar.

Current prices for the existing model in China range from $15,080 to $19,185. It is likely that the version with the larger battery and fast charging will raise the upper price limit slightly.
