Mercedes revealed the interior of the first fully electric C-Class four days before its world premiere in Seoul. A lounge instead of a cabin, Hyperscreen across the entire dashboard, and 162 stars in the ceiling.

The tunnel is gone — space has come

The transition to the MB.EA electric platform offers the most obvious bonus for passengers: a flat floor instead of the central tunnel, which for decades divided the rear row into “comfortable” and “tolerable.” This is complemented by a large panoramic roof glass, which visually opens up the space — Mercedes characterizes the new C-Class as the most spacious in its history.

The company describes the interior design as a “driver-oriented refuge.” It sounds beautiful, but in essence, it means: fewer physical buttons, more glass, and a single through-style from the dashboard to the doors.

Hyperscreen or Superscreen — choose

The central element of the interior is a solid decorative panel that visually unites the dashboard with the center console. It integrates either the MBUX Hyperscreen or the MBUX Superscreen.

The Hyperscreen, with approximately 10 million pixels, occupies the entire width — it has transitioned from the GLC EQ. Matrix backlighting technology allows for displaying separate content for the passenger without disturbing the driver.

Past experience constantly reminds us that glass does not replace the confidence from a real button or regulator. Physical controls on the center console and steering wheel have been preserved, but they have become significantly fewer.

Materials: from vegan to Burmester

Mercedes focused on the quality of trim even for basic configurations. Even the entry-level version receives new “Softtorino” leather with a fine texture. Sport seats in Nappa leather have “Twisted Diamond” perforation and contrasting stitching. In the AMG Line version, moccasin stitching appears on the side cushions.

The speaker grilles have, for the first time, received horizontal graphics with a 3D structure and a two-tone appearance, while in the Burmester 3D system, they are made of stainless steel.

Interesting for a certain section of buyers: the electric C-Class will become the second Mercedes model with a certified vegan interior after the GLC. The package includes seats, ceiling, pillars, door panels, and mats.

Seats, massage, and stars in the ceiling

The top seats are designed for long journeys: several electric adjustments with memory function, four-way lumbar support, massage across the backrest, seat ventilation, and integration into the 4D sound system — Mercedes connects seat functions and audio effects more closely than before.

Lighting extends from the dashboard through the center console to all doors and optionally — in the glass roof. 162 individually lit stars in the ceiling create a starry sky effect. Up to ten ambient lighting “styles” are available, synchronized between the instrument panel, steering wheel, and doors.

Climate and acoustics

The new climate system with a heat pump heats the cabin at low temperatures much faster than conventional versions with an internal combustion engine. According to the manufacturer: at minus 7 degrees during a 20-minute trip, the heating time is reduced by approximately half with half the energy consumption.

Regarding acoustics, Mercedes relies on extensive sound insulation measures. A rigid body, aerodynamically optimized body shape, and sound insulation from front to back are intended to reduce noise levels. Elastomer mounts separate the chassis and body, and electric motors and the air conditioning housing also have special designs. Laminated glass is standardly installed in the front.

Premiere and competitors

The production of the electric C-Class will unfold in Kecskemét, Hungary, starting from the second quarter of 2026. Europe will receive the car first, and the USA in early 2027. The starting price in the American market is expected to be around $55,000.

The main competitor is the new BMW i3 Neue Klasse, which debuted a month ago. BMW chose the opposite approach to the interior: minimum traditional screens in favor of a heads-up display. Two different views on what a premium electric cabin should be.

Technical specifications — range, power, battery configurations — will be announced by Mercedes on April 20 during a live broadcast from Korea.
