Renault Clio continues to hold the status of one of Europe's most popular hatchbacks, and it does so not only because of its design. The company decided to update the engine lineup by adding a version that will make electric car owners envy its range, and diesel lovers appreciate its efficiency. We're talking about the new Eco-G 120 modification, which runs on liquefied gas.
However, the main news here is not even the presence of factory gas equipment, but that Renault has finally combined the gas modification with the EDC automatic transmission with dual clutch.
More "horses" and less expenses
Under the hood is a three-cylinder turbocharged engine with a 1.2-liter volume. Compared to the previous Eco-G 100 version, the power increased by 20 hp and now stands at 120 hp, with a torque of 200 Nm. This has added the necessary dynamics to the car, which the liter version sometimes lacked on country highways.
The dual-fuel system is integrated at the design stage at Renault plants. A 50-liter gas tank is installed in place of the spare wheel, so the trunk volume has not changed. Together with a 39-liter gasoline tank, the total range of the Renault Clio reaches 1450 kilometers.
Comfort without compromises
The use of LPG not only saves money (the cost of gas is usually half that of gasoline) but also is more environmentally friendly. According to the manufacturer, CO2 emissions in gas operation mode are about 105 g/km, which is 10% less than a similar gasoline engine. LPG fuel consumption is about 6.5 liters per 100 km, which is a very decent figure for a 120-horsepower car.
How much does savings cost
The prices for the new modification are already known. In Italy, the base Evolution version with the Eco-G 120 engine and EDC transmission starts from €21,000. A more equipped Techno variant will cost €23,000, and the top Esprit Alpine version will be priced at €25,000.
For comparison, the regular gasoline version TCe 115 costs from €19,000, while the full hybrid E-Tech 160 can reach up to €28,000. Thus, the gas-powered Clio occupies the "golden middle" in the lineup, offering a good balance of price, power, and operating costs.
