The first batch of vehicle kits — 80 Kodiaq and Karoq crossovers — was sent to the Eurocar plant in Transcarpathia. This was reported by the representative office of Škoda in Ukraine.
According to the company, the increase in production will directly depend on the development of the war in Ukraine. The vacant premises of the plant will continue to serve residence center temporarily displaced persons.
SKD (Semi Knocked Down) means that the power unit (engine, gearbox, front axle), rear axle, wheels, exhaust system, as well as the driveshaft for all-wheel drive models are dismantled from finished cars. The main components, together with the body, are sent for reassembly to a factory in Ukraine.
The Eurocar plant was built in 2002 for the large and small-scale assembly of Volkswagen cars (mainly the Škoda brand). According to the statistics of the association Ukravtoprom, in 2021 Eurocar produced 3,476 cars, which is 2.7% more than in 2020.
From the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a humanitarian hub was created at the Eurocar plant and a school for IDP children was opened.
